JANSEVA SAMITI
Janseva Samiti began its journey 50 years ago with the motto of 'Service to Society'. While holding medical camps and starting a Public Library, the Samiti soon realized the need to establish a college for women. In 1968, thus was born Shri M D Shah Mahila College of Arts and Commerce situated at Malad, Mumbai with the aim to provide affordable and accessible education to men students. In these five decades the college has taken valuable strides in the direction of offering low cost but quality education to the underprivileged section of society. The college which has 9000 students now, offers new age courses in management studies, computer applications, mass media, accounts and finance in addition to the traditional courses in Arts and Commerce. It possesses the mantle of being the only college in the area offering higher education in four mediums viz., English, Hindi, Marathi and Gujarati. The aim to empower women through education, while preserving the traditional cultural values, is constantly adhered to by the management and the faculty. The Samiti carries forward ‘Jan seva’ through “Janseva NGO”. It works in three areas - support to senior citizens, school-dropouts and youth in society.
